S1. Day 1, A good start.

In a minecraftian fashion, you wake up on a beach. Well, only that you get a couple bandages, painkillers and a flashlight.

Thats all you get when you start out, fun isn't it?

You're immersed into a world where your chances of survival are slim, and its safe to say you're confused and haven't a hot clue what you're supposed to do for that very first time. Thats the way I was, anyway. I'll be pretty frank, I've done some pretty stupid shit thanks to the steep and unforgiving learning curve of the game.

One example was that I was spotted by a single zombie, then another, and a couple more after that. Which left me frantically trying to outrun a pack of a dosen of the fuckers, which was a complete waste of time. To some absolute douchebaggery from the fellow not-dead denizens of Chernarus... Such as getting shot at, or being in between two groups shooting at eachother, or simply getting shot by mistake. Since running to another player for salvation is more than a reason for them to kindly insert a peice of lead into your face.

Yeah, Chernarus isn't a very kind place in that starting period. But once you get the hang of evading zombies and players alike it becomes more of an interesting challenge with less frustrations. The first day under what is probably my seventh life on this game was quite interesting. I was heading to a forest in the direction of Cherno, (One of the larger cities of the game, normally a bad idea...) when suddenly, there was a distant rumble of an engine followed by a 'Beep beep!"

A guy in a truck was beckoning me over. Normally I would stay clear, but the guy seemed cool enough. Besides, you can't exactly exit a vehicle and shoot a person without taking a bit of time to do so, and he wasn't exactly running me over either. So I headed over and in I went. The guy explained his character spawned right next to the thing, which was incredibly lucky on his part. As vehicles are incredibly valuable!

We got aquainted, and I asked if I could get a ride over to Cherno. He agreed, but would only take me to the outskirts, which was good enough for me. After a good 5 minutes of repainting the front end of the vehicle with zombie gore, we got close enough to the destination and hopped out with a thanks. The guy turned around and sped off, but I had also noticed a band of survivors in persuit. I'm not sure what had happened to the guy in the end, but I just hope that lot that followed him were freindly. However, I didn't hesitate to disappear into the bush and be on my way after that. Call me paranoid, I just don't take chances.

I pretty much ran through the outer area of the city looking for an opening to creep into. Having gone through forest and field alike I eventually found a place. I could see a factory in the background, with some smaller housing, garages and even a soccer field infront of it. Very few zombies were shambling around, and that was good enough break for me. I approached quietly and gave the creatures a good distance. Keeping crouched, or prone minimalizes the chances that you'll be detected by a zombie, so taking it slow is pretty ideal once you enter a populated area such as Cherno. Though, my luck kept me zombie free as I got within the parameters of the first set of buildings.

Garages span a good deal of the more populated areas. You'll often find stuff such as automotive parts, glass panes, barbed wire and equipment for barracades. But from time to time you'll also find weapons such as Crowbars and Hatchets. I was able to grab the latter, which was better than nothing. With a bit more confidence in my security I continued on. A big grey building loomed just behind the garages and a couple apartment complexes as well. I noticed there were open windows and doors on it, which is a givaway that you can explore the things. I had to hack my way few a through runners, but I got to the lot easily enough.

What a treasure trove! After going through 5 apartments I was able to locate a Winchester lever action, a Makarov which eventually got replaced by an M1911 I had located moments after, as well as a good deal of medical supplies, food and water. Hell, I was even able to grab some binoculars and a larger backpack too.
Its kind of funny though. The more you load yourself up in this game, the more uncomfortable you get. One thing i've noticed during my time playing is this: The bigger, or fancier backpack your character has. The more likely a sniper is to blow your fucking brains out. Bandits are after you for their survival, and sometimes enjoyment. If you present yourself like a fat pig for the slaughter, chances are someone will not hesitate to kill you and take your hard earned stuff.

After making sure I was thorough with the buildings, I headed on out... Though, that great big grey building I mentioned earlier? That ended up to be a pharmacy. After running through that, I came out with blood bags, more bandages, epi-pens and much much more. Which is great, I really like the idea of being a roving doctor of sorts, being able to help those that had their day fucked up by a zombie or player alike. Its just I'll need to figure a means to approach other players without that sense of "Oh hey, theres a potentially wounded guy over there. I wonder what the chances are that he's going to blow my head off." to do so.

Either way, after hearing rapid gunshots in the distance I felt that my stay at Cherno was a bit far too extended for my own good, and helped myself out the way I came. I was able to leave the city without much harm and settled atop of a hillock. In the distance I spotted what looked like a machine shop. This would be my target for exploration soon. But for now, I concluded the day cozied up within a bush. The most protection I could get for the time being.

So in the end, I was able to pretty much load up confidently in a matter of hours, which is rather lucky on my part. I got helped out by a pretty cool guy, loaded up with guns and supplies alike and settled down rather satisfied. Now, the next few days will only tell whether I'll be able to continue on without harm.

Anyway, Wish me luck.
